Upglass Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 17, 2026
Upglass shows you what's in the sky above you. It's built to do that with as little of your data as possible. This policy covers the Upglass apps for Android, Android XR and Apple Vision Pro.
The short version
- No account, no sign-in.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking.
- The camera image is shown on your screen and never leaves your device.
- Your precise location stays on your device. A location rounded to about 1 km is sent to a public aircraft-tracking service so we can show the planes near you.
- We, the developer, don't store any of your data on our servers.
What the app uses, and why
Location. The app needs your position to work out which satellites, planets and aircraft are above you. Those calculations run on your device. When the aircraft layer is on, the app sends your location, rounded to two decimal places (about 1 km), to adsb.lol to fetch nearby aircraft. When you turn the aircraft layer off, nothing is sent. Location is used only while the app is open.
Camera (phone only). The phone app shows the live camera view behind the sky labels. Frames are displayed and immediately discarded. They're never recorded, saved or uploaded. On headsets, you see the real world through the device itself, and the app doesn't access its cameras.
Motion and orientation sensors. The compass, gyroscope and accelerometer tell the app which way you're pointing. These readings stay on your device.
Services the app connects to
To show live data, the app makes requests to these services. Like any internet request, each one can see your device's IP address.
| Service | What it's used for | What we send |
|---|---|---|
| Our data feed (Cloudflare R2) | Satellite orbits and catalog, refreshed every few hours | Nothing about you |
| CelesTrak (celestrak.org) | Backup source for satellite orbits | Nothing about you |
| adsb.lol | Live aircraft positions | Your location rounded to about 1 km |
Each service has its own privacy practices. We don't control how they log requests.
Purchases
Upglass Pro is bought through Google Play or the App Store. They handle the payment and tell the app only whether Pro is unlocked. We don't receive your payment details or purchase history, and we have no server that stores them.
What's stored on your device
The app keeps the downloaded satellite catalog, your compass calibration and your layer choices on your device so it starts faster. On Android, the calibration and layer settings may be included in your own device backup. Uninstalling the app removes all of it.
Children
Upglass isn't directed at children under 13. It doesn't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age.
Your choices
- Turn off the aircraft layer to stop sending your rounded location anywhere.
- Revoke location or camera permission at any time in your device settings. The app needs both to show the sky.
- Because we don't keep any data about you, there's nothing for us to delete or export. If you have a question, write to us.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top and describe the change in the app's release notes.
